Berhampur, March 25(LocalWire): Kandhamal district police has now come up with an unique idea to discourage erring commuters who dare to venture out of their houses during the lock down period by publicly shaming them for defiance.
The police personnel in the district from Wednesday started affixing posters of shame on the backs of citizens who openly defied the lock down norms in the region.
Most of the erring citizens faced the ire of the police and had to face the insulting stamp onto them.
Some of the interesting posters read, “I am selfishness. I would not stay home, which can push the society in danger. I don’t repent for it”.
At least 20 such persons have been shamed by holding such posters in Baliguda, Kotagrh and Tumudibandh police station limits on Tuesday” said a senior police officer.
The photos of the offenders with holding posters have been posted in the social media to shame them.
“This is a part of a social experiment to make people stay at home” said sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Baliguda Manas Ranjan Barik.
Despite the need for social distancing and orders of avoiding unnecessary commutation, several people were seen flouting guidelines issued by government for public safety in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
In order to make such violators comply with the lock down, we have taken such unique step, police said.
“A day after such experiment, it was seen that such persons desisted from venturing out on the streets without any reason and their number was drastically down in our police station limits on Wednesday”, said officer in charge, Tumudibandh police station Baba Saheb Saraf.
