Bhubaneswar, Nov 10 (LocalWire): A kangaroo court (illegal court), ostracized a ten-member family after attacking them in Harichandanpur village under Banpur police station jurisdiction of Khurda district.
Acting on a complaint lodged by civil society groups, local police arrested eight villagers for allegedly inflicting mental and physical torture on the family, police said today.
The family had been attacked and driven out of the village to settle personal score by the arrested villagers.
Ration was denied to them following diktats from the influential group.
Later, the victims fled the village and took shelter in a relative’s house in the neighbouring village, police said.
The accused have been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene act) of the IPC and remanded to judicial custody, police added.
