Bhubaneswar, June 9 (LocalWire): ‘Kanya Kiran’, an initiative conceptualized by Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS, to create awareness on violence against women and girl child is all set to hold its third edition here from 10-12 June.
Dr Samanta said violence against women and girl child has no place in civilized society while eliciting support from general public to insure zero incidence of this social plague.
‘Kanya Kiran’ will be carried out at a global level from next year, Dr Samanta announced during the flag-off ceremony of the programme’s coordinators, volunteers and participants here today.
Addressing the audience, Olympian Anuradha Biswal said, ‘KIIT and KISS have always been doing something new for the betterment of society. Today, time has come to give importance to the girl child’. She thanked Dr Samanta for this noble concept.
Dr Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT Deemed to be University said, the world is proceeding with proper coordination among nature, people and technology.
‘We need to maintain the balance with these three systems otherwise we will face many problems,’ she added. Shri R N Dash, Secretary, KIIT and KISS also spoke during the programme.
‘Kanya Kiran’ was launched by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences in association with UN Women and Kalinga Fellowship in all the 30 districts of Odisha on 3 June last year.
It continued whole the year through in different places and was successful in touching the public conscience. It also had a positive impact on curbing the problem of violence against women and girl child, said intellectuals.
The programme covered all the panchayats of the state, spreading awareness on social evils of violence against women and girl child among millions of households. Over 3000 staff of KISS and KIIT, particularly women staff were actively involved as coordinators and volunteers.
They disseminated the message at household levels in villages amid overwhelming response.
