Berhampur, July 8 (LocalWire): Khallikote Cluster University (KCU) which is now functioning inside the Khallikote Autonomous College in Berhampur, is likely to shift to a rented building near Golanthara, about 15-km from here after the government approved the proposal last Saturday.
The government will spend around Rs 9 lakh per month to pay the rent.
The rent of the proposed building was calculated by road and building authority at Rs 7,52,400 per month while the rent of furniture and fixtures calculated at Rs 73,876 per month.
In addition, the government has to pay other taxes applicable for the purpose, sources said.
‘A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the university and the building
owner before the present campus shifts to the private building,’ said KCU vice chancellor,AN Mishra.
‘We selected three probable buildings to run the university.
An expert committee of the Government, however, selected this after visiting all the three,’ he added.
The building will betaken on rent till the university shifts to a permanent campus.
The VC said shifting of the university was necessary due to space crunch in the Khallikote autonomous college as it was presently functioning in only one block. Moreover, several
teaching faculties of the university have got several research projects from different agencies,
that need laboratories and the university has procured equipment worth Rs one crore to install in the laboratories, he said.
VC said the university authorities would also supervise the construction of the permanent campus.
The government has allotted 20-acres of land at Plaur Hill area for the construction of the permanent campus of the cluster university.
The university has also got Rs 12.26-crore under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan in the first phase to start the building.
