Kendrapara, July 14 (LocalWire): Tension was palpable in Kendrapara town and its nearby areas on Sunday after protestors resorted to road blockade at several places, disrupting traffic and paralysing normal life demanding the arrest of the BJP leader’s attackers who are still untraced.
Shops and business establishments were closed and vehicles were off the roads.
Bus services were also affected due to the agitation on Cuttack-Chandabali Road and Paradip-Chandikhola highway.
Four unidentified miscreants shot BJP leader and noted businessman Vivekananda Moharana in front of Gulanagar high school under Kendrapara Sadar police station yesterday.
Although the situation at Kendrapada town was tense, it was under control with additional police force being posted as a precautionary measure.
Police formed three teams to arrest the miscreants.
The district administration has appealed to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony in Kendrapada.
Police are keeping a hawk-eyed vigil, particularly in the sensitive areas of Kendrapada town and its nearby areas .
‘Cooperation among police officers and the general people is the need of the hour to stop any incident breaching peace,’ said Rajiv Lochan Panda, the sub- divisional police officer of Kendrapara.
Duroyodhan Sahoo the president of the district unit of BJP criticised the police and district administration for their failure to check the law and order situation in the district.
‘We demand the immediate arrest of all the miscreants,’ he said.
