Bhubaneswar, July 18 (LocalWire): At a time when the Coronavirus outbreak has posed new threats to human lives, the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and its sister organisations have now chipped in to extend a helping hand.
Predicting the challenges that lay ahead, KIIT and the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) initiated an action plan to help the worst-hit sections of the society.
It was the first mover in creating awareness on the disease even before the State reported its first coronavirus case.
It was also one of the few institutions who seems to have well planned and executed online classes for all the 30,000 students of KIIT to ensure smooth academic progression without any hurdles.
The university said that close to 95 per cent of them are also attending the classes as well.
The students of KISS on the other hand also roped in creating awareness in local communities against Coronavirus.
KISS launched ‘Project Uday’, a massive awareness campaign on social distancing, proper use of mask, hand washing and respiratory hygiene in six aspirational districts of Odisha: Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Balangir, and Gajapati.
“Coronavirus pandemic is the most serious global health crisis of our times and also the toughest humanitarian challenge.
It has extracted a huge human toll, besides causing big setbacks to the economy,” said Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS.
He also added, “Our efforts are a drop in the ocean and aim to bring smiles on the faces of as many people as we can touch.
But, I am sure, together, we will overcome this crisis also”, he added.
The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), another sister organisation of KIIT was also one of the first health institutions to start COVID Hospital with the help of the state government.
In anticipation of the possible spike in positive cases in districts, KIIT has also set up three 200-bedded COVID-19 hospitals, one each in Kandhamal, Balangir and Mayurbhanj districts, with the support of the respective district administration.
