Berhampur, December 17 (LocalWire): It was a big day for the class XI student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Berhampur who had impressed the President of Russia Vladimir Putin with his presentation on clean energy sources; he was felicitated back home by the district administration in Ganjam.
P Biswanath Patra was one of 25 students from the country who had participated in the Deep Technology Learning and Innovation Programme held at Sochi in Russia, recently and got an opportunity to present before Putin his idea on using plutonium as an alternative source of energy.
The eight-day project educational programme was held from 30 November to 7 December as part of an agreement between the NITI Ayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and SIIUS last year.
Ganjam collector Vijya Amruta Kulange felicitated Patra at the two-day district-level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition (DLSMEE) and the District Level Exhibition and Project Completion (DLEPC) 2019 held at Balaji Bidyapeetha in Kanishi, near here.
He was also given a cash prize of Rs 5,000 from Guru-Chhatra Kalyan Panthi, set up by the district education office.
During the felicitation, Patra who was the only student from Odisha to participate in the prestigious programme shared his experience in Russia and his discussion with the President of Russia.
“I am very happy to get an opportunity to interact with the president. He appreciated my idea for the generation of clean energy,” Patra said,
He was selected for the programme based on his model “the small water dispenser” that aimed to combat the global water crisis.
The model was selected at the Atal Tinkering Marathon 2018-19 and it was among the top 50 innovations in the country, his guide teacher for the project Santosh Kumar Padhy said, adding that two other students, Swayansu Mandal and Sritish Kumar Gouda, were also involved in preparing the project.
