Berhampur, July 30 (LocalWire): The war of words between ruling and Opposition members during the two-day regional-level youth parliament at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Berhampur, raked up several burning issues of the country.
The students of five KVs in Bhubaneswar region of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan participated in the competition.
The schools included Paradeep port, Dhenkanal, Bondamunda, Charbatia and Balasore.
Around 50 students from each of the schools participated in the competition. Each school had both a ruling and an Opposition team, who debated over different issues.
Issues like Right to Education Act and detention in Class VIII, pollution in the Ganga, air pollution, child labour, migrant labour and their problems, scarcity of water in major cities of the country, recent death of children in Bihar were raised by students of different schools during the competition.
Just like proceedings at the Parliament, the prime minister and concerned ministers answered Opposition members, while the Speaker intervened promptly, from time to time.
Before the start of the Parliament, members and ministers took oath, while reporters recorded the proceedings of the session.
KV Bondamunda stood first in the competition and will represent the zonal level competition.
Former minister and MLA (Gopalpur) Pradeep Panigrahy, principal KV5 Bhubaneswar, Biraja Mishra and principal, KV Berhampur B Patnaik attended as jury members.
Attending as guest in the valedictory function during the competition MP (Berhampur) Chandra Sekhar Sahu said this kind of parliament would help children to inculcate a sense of leadership quality.
‘We are happy the children are aware of some of the burning issues of the country and are voicing their opinion on them,’ said Sahu.
It’s a platform for school students to exercise their rights and to give opinion on different topics, said MLA (Gopalpur).
The competition was conducted following the rules and regulations framed by the ministry of Parliamentary affairs in consultation with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to introduce a scheme of National Youth Parliament Competition in Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country and to hold Youth Parliament annually.
