Berhampur, August 4 (LocalWire): Family members of a migrant worker from Pathara in Ganjam district’s Khallikote block, who died in Dubai, two days ago, requested the district administration to make arrangements to bring back his body to the native village for cremation.
The deceased identified as Basant Kumar Sadhab, 38 was working at a construction firm in Dubai for the last two years.
He reportedly died after a heart-attack.
One of his friends informed his family members about his death over phone
‘Since we are very poor and cannot afford to bring his body for cremation, we request you to do the same,’ Prajita Sadhab, wife of the deceased requested district collector Vijay Amruta Kulange in a letter.
‘We conducted an inquiry and sent it to the state labour commissioner along with the request letter of the deceased’s wife through the district collector,’ said district labour officer (DLO) Chhatrapur Siba Narayan Sahoo.
He said they have also advised the wife of the deceased to apply to other government assistances, as he was a registered construction worker.
Sadhab went to Dubai though an agent for construction work.
Since then, he sent around Rs 20,000 every month to his family, his wife said.
She, however, did not believe his sudden death.
‘We don’t know about his post-mortem at Dubai and requested the district administration to bring back his body to the village,’ she said.
