Berhampur, Nov 1 (LocalWire) People affected by landslide that occurred in Gajapati district due to recent heavy rains have started re-construction of their houses under Biju Pucca Ghara Yojana (BPGY), a rural housing scheme of Odisha government.
A day after the natural calamity struck the two villages, Kulung and Titisingh under Gumma block, the district administration had decided to construct their houses.
“We have provided work order to all 31 affected families for construction of their houses under BPGY. They will get Rs.1.30 lakh each for the purpose”, said Gajapati collector Anupam Saha.
The Collector said process is on to find out the partially damaged houses and soon after completion of enumeration, they will also be provided Rs.1.05 lakh as house repair assistance.
The affected families are now staying in relief camps set up at the nearby church and Anganwardi centers where cooking foods and other relief materials are being provided. “The camps will run till their houses are repaired”, the collector said.
Meanwhile, the collector said the villagers have evinced interest to settle in safer places.
“We have asked them to select a patch of government land as per their convenience.
The administration will rehabilitate them in a plain area of their choice” he said.
Altogether 75 families inhabited in two villagers on a hilltop when the calamity struck, the villagers said adding over 150 cattle had perished in the mudslide.
