Berhampur, Nov 16 (LocalWire) The inspector-in-charge(IIC) of Buguda police station in Ganjam district, who allegedly assaulted an advocate two days back, was transferred to district headquarters at Chhatraour on Thursday.
DIG (southern range) Asish Singh transferred Rama Chandra Biswal and asked the SP (Ganjam) to submit a report on the activities of the IIC in the alleged assault case of advocate Hara Prasad Das on Tuesday.
The DIG also directed the SP to supervise the cases registered relating to the incident for a DSP-rank officer to investigate them. At least four cases and counter cases have been registered so far, sources said.
The cases were registered both against the IIC and the advocate, sources added.
“Further step will be taken after getting the report,” said the DIG.
Earlier, a delegation of Ganjam Bar Association (GBA), led by its president Mohan Singari, submitted a memorandum to the DIG seeking suspension and arrest of the police officer.
“We also urged the DIG to take measures to prevent such ‘atrocities’ by any police against advocate in future,” said Singari.Condemning the incident, the GBA observed cease-work agitation for a day.
“We have called the representatives of all bar associations in the district to discuss the matter and decide on further course of action” said the GBA president.
Bhanjanagara and Buguda bar associations has also resorted to cease-work on Wednesday.
A heated exchange of words on a land-related case ensured between the advocate and the cop, following which latter allegedly assaulted the former in the police station itself on Tuesday. Sustaining injury, Das was admitted to the local hospital.
