Jagatsinghpur, Oct 17 (LocalWire): Local BJP leaders seemed happy with Damodar Rout’s resignation from the party before the Bijepur by-poll.
They believed during the general elections Rout’s role was dubious in Paradip and Balikuda Erasama Assembly constituency and felt he was working for the BJD as he played a key role in his son Sambit Routray’s win with a BJD ticket from Paradip Assembly seat.
BJP leader Sampad Swain who contested as the MLA candidate from Paradip Assembly seat against Rout‘s son Routray said ‘After Rout joined the BJP, he has not done anything to help the party in Paradip.
There will no difference after his departure from the party as he was campaigning in favour of BJD during the last election.’
District BJP president of Mahila Morcha Krishna Mohanty said ‘Rout was with the BJP for seven months but he has not done anything for the party rather he was working for the BJD.
Rout wants to be important in BJP but since he could not sacrifice and did not have the spirit of tolerance he could not survive in the party.
BJP will not be at a loss but would rather gain after Rout’s departure because he has underestimated the women leaders of the party’.
Rout was expelled from the BJD in September 2018 for raising the issue of corruption against the then government and had joined the BJP in March, just before the twin elections in the state.
He quit the BJP yesterday as he was not being involved in party activities and not included as the star campaigner for Bijepur the Assembly by-poll to be held on 21 October.
Rout, who is a member of the Odisha Assembly for 35 years and was a Cabinet minister seven times, had lost the 2019 polls from Balikuda-Ersama Assembly constituency after he contested the election on a BJP ticket from this seat.
