Berhampur, October 12 (Local Wire) As many as 150 fishermen along with 35 trollers of Andhra Pradesh were rescued by the police in Ganjam district from the Bay of Bengal near Gopalpur-on Sea in the midnight of Wednesday before cyclone Titli.
The fishermen came to sea in Gopalpur area for the fishing purpose on Wednesday, a day before the severe cyclonic storm Titli made landfall near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh.
In spite of persuasion and warning about the cyclonic storm inched towards the cost, they did not come to the shore.
But after seeing the intensity of the cyclonic storm, they requested the police for the rescue, said a press statement from police headquarter, Cuttack.
Observing the gravity of the situation, DIG (Southern range) Asish Singh, district collector Vijay Amrta Kulange and SP (Ganjam) Brijesh Rai rushed to the spot and rescued them at the midnight, it said.
Inspector General of Police (law and order) Amitabh Thakur discussed with the DIG (Southern range) and DIG (Coast Guard) and coordinated the rescue operation.
