Bhubaneswar, Feb 12 (LocalWire): Devotees thronged Chandrabhaga beach in Puri district to take holy dip and offer prayers to the Sun God on the occasion of Magha Saptami on Tuesday.
This festival is celebrated on the seventh day of the new moon of Hindu Magha month. This is a day specifically set aside for the worship of Sun God.
On this auspicious occasion, people were seen making a beeline to Konark to celebrate the birth of Sun God.
As the Sun returned to its northern course, devotees assembled before sunrise to take bath at the sacred Chandrabhaga beach after having a glimpse of the sun.
As per Hindu belief, taking a holy dip on this day exonerates one from all sins. It also marks the start of harvesting season and change of season from winter to spring.
