Bhubaneswar, March 30 (LocalWire): The cyber cell of crime branch has arrested a man here for allegedly diverting Rs.1.3 crore from a bank account of an NRI working in Libya, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as 31-year-old Dilip Kumar Das, was arrested from Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Police said the accused used to work as a financial advisor of the victim, a gynecologist who has been living with her husband in the African country for last four decades.
“The accused has prior knowledge of bank deposit of the victim and diverted the money in phases between November 2017 and January 2019. Later, a case was registered with the cyber police station on March 12,” said a police official.
Police further said that the accused has also purchased a posh flat on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and a Skoda vehicle with the ill gotten money.
“We have seized eight debit and credit cards and a laptop used in the crime,” added the police official.
