Jagatsinghpur, May 4 (LocalWire): In an interesting development, police arrested a man in Jagstsinghpur district for murdering his wife seven years ago, an official said on Monday.
The victim Nayana Sethi alias Bidulata, used to live with her husband, Rama Chandra Sethi, in Ogalpur village.
However, upon her husband casting aspersions on her character followed by frequent quarrels, she left for her parents’ home in Baranga village.
Later, her brother intervened and managed to patch up things between the couple, upon which she returned to Ogalpur village, nearly two days before the occurrence.
On 10th May 2013, when none of the other family members were present in the house, the accused, in a fit of rage murdered the woman.
On the purported day, the victim went to bed at around 9 pm.
Sethi returned home around 11.30 pm and reportedly had a quarrel with his wife.
Words led to blows, and he hit his wife with a sharp chopper as a result of which she sustained bleeding injuries on her head.
Neighbours were unaware until the next morning.
The locals upon looking for the woman found her dead in her bedroom. The murder weapon was also recovered.
When the victim’s brother lodged an FIR with the Jagatsinghpur police, the police had registered a case but failed to nab the culprit as he had fled the village after the incident.
The IIC of Jagatsinghpur police station, Rajani Kant Mishra, said that the police had failed to nab him for seven years.
As Sethi had returned to Ogalpur during the lockdown, they were able to trace and arrest him.
