Berhampur, June 25 (LocalWire): A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offence) court at Phulbani in Kandhamal district today sentenced a 29-year old man to five years rigorous imprisonment for outraging the modesty and attempting to rape a minor girl in Sunapanga jungle, six years ago.
Additional district and sessions judge-cum special judge (POCSO court) AB Behera after recording the statements of 11 witnesses, passed the judgement and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused, Junesh Digal of Marbuli village under Baliguda police station limits, the special public prosecutor of the court, Asim Kumar Praharaj, said.
In case of default, the accused would have to serve four more months of rigorous imprisonment, he said.
The court, however, acquitted another accused, Ranjan Digal, due to lack of evidence against him, Praharaj said.
The prosecution said, Ranjan working as a Gram Sathi hada, had asked the girl to come out of her house.
As pre-planned, he along with accused Junesh took her to the nearby jungle, where the accused molested the victim and also tried to rape her.
They fled after committing the crime and the girl was rescued by some villagers who took her to her house.
The victim’s mother lodged an FIR at Baliguda police station on 25 January 2013 after she narrated the incident.
