Jagatsinghpur, September 14 (LocalWire): Irate locals blocked the road at Pokhariapada and ransacked the office of the Central Electricity Supply Utility of Orissa (CESU) blaming it for electrocution of a farmer while working in his paddy field on Saturday.
The farmer Nilamani Swain from Pokhariapada under Erasama police limit was killed when he accidentally touched the 11 KV live electric wire that was hanging over his paddy field.
On getting the information, the villagers rushed to the spot and found Swain lying dead in his paddy field.
Local villagers alleged that the CESU employees arrived only after an hour of getting the information.
The villagers also alleged that the farmer was electrocuted due to the negligence of CESU officials.
The irate villagers also took the dead body from paddy field and staged a dharna blocking the Pokhiriapda road demanding compensation and action against the errant CESU employees.
They also ransacked the office of the junior engineer of CESU protesting the callous attitude of the officials.
Later, police officials led by Tirtol SDPO Deepak Ranjan Jena assured compensation, housing facility and widow pension to victim’s wife persuading the villagers to call off their stir.
