Berhampur, Feb 04 (LocalWire): The Ganjam district and sessions judge court on Monday sentenced life imprisonment to a 28-year-old man hearing a case of murder and loot.
District and sessions judge Bibhu Prasad Routray also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict. In default, he will have to serve additional rigorous imprisonment of one-and-a-half year, the court said.
The convict, Tapan Kumar Pradhan, was arrested on charges of stabbing an old woman to death and subsequently looting her gold ornaments here at Rama Nagara about five years ago.
According to the prosecutor, the convict had stabbed Sabitri Moharana to death while she was plucking flowers near her house on August 7 morning in 2014. After committing the murder, he looted her all gold ornaments. Later, he was arrested by police.
Hearing 28 witnesses, the district and sessions court found him guilty and awarded life imprisonment, the prosecutor said.
