Berhampur, Oct 20 (LocalWire) A man, who allegedly duped many youths promising them government employment, was arrested at Phulbani, police said today.
The accused Rohit Behera (32) of Sinepada in Phulbani town was arrested yesterday on the basis of complaints filed by Saroj Behera, Chandrakant Behera, Prabhat Digal and others, they said..
Police seized from his possession Rs. 70,000 cash, about 15 fake rubber stamps including that of the President, Odisha Governor, Chief Justice of India (CJI), several fake documents, bank passbooks and four mobile phones.
The complainants alleged that Behera had collected lakhs of rupees from them by providing them government job offer letters which were later found to be fake. But, Behera refuted the charge.
A matriculate, Behera was running an office in the town since last two years and was allegedly seeking Rs one lakh to Rs five lakh from the gullible youths after asking them to register their name.
‘We suspect he has duped several job aspirants and the number of complaints may increase”, Naresh Kumar Sahu, in-charge of town police station said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had engaged some agents for the purpose. Further investigation into the matter was continuing, he said.
