Rourkela, September 7 (LocalWire): In a bizarre incident at the Rourkela station, a young man jumped over a moving train from the foot overhead bridge in the afternoon.
The person in his late twenties has been identified as Ankit Kerketta from Gumla in Jharkhand.
The Rourkela station came to a standstill when Kerketta jumped from the foot overhead bridge near Platform No on to the Ispat Express that had just started to move.
According to reports, the driver of the train was immediately alerted about the incident while the train was yet to pick-up speed.
The Rourkela Protection Force soon cordoned off the area as the train was brought to stop.
“Some employees of the Railways immediately climbed on top of the train roof.
However, he was in no mood to come down. Finally, he was persuaded, and two persons helped him in climbing down,” an onlooker said.
“It is yet to be established whether he was mentally sound or was playing some dangerous prank to draw attention,” one of the vendors on the platform said, adding that, “At the first look he seemed to be mentally disturbed.
I could say this from observing the way he was talking and behaving.”
The RPF immediately took him into custody after he alighted and initiated investigating.
Speaking on the incident Railway Police superintendent Trinath Patel said, “I am not sure about his mental health.
The RPF has his custody at this moment.
Let them get over with his interrogation after which he will be sent for medical examination and finally the facts will come out.”
