Berhampur, Sept 29 (LocalWire): A 27-year old man was arrested by the police on Monday for the murder of a 70-year old man on August 9 at Kundulu in Gajapati.
The accused had shot Dalimba Gamanga suspecting him to be a practice of witchcraft.
Police exhumed the partially decomposed body of the deceased from the Ashadamba Nal, where the accused person and some others had buried the body after committing the murder and sent it to the MKCG Medical College here for autopsy, said sub divisional police officer (SDPO) R. Udayagiri Dillip Kumar Nayak.
While the main accused was identified as Ram Chandra Raita of the same village, at least three others, who assisted him in the murder have been detained for interrogation, police said. A country-made gun which was used to shoot him was also seized from Raita, police said.
Though the incident took place on August 9, the FIR however was lodged by Budu Gamanga, one of the relatives of the deceased, on Sunday, about the murder of Dalimba.
Family members of the deceased did not immediately lodge a complaint fearing the accused persons, police said.
Raita claimed that his wife had had a miscarriage and his children were suffering from ailments due to the black-magic of the old man.
The old man, acting like a quack, had been treating the patients in the village, police said.
