Berhampur, April 29 (LocalWire): Women demonstrated infront of Khallikote police station today and tension was palpable in Kusadhipa village in Ganjam district where bootleggers lynched a middle-aged man on Sunday night. The women were demanding the arrest of the accused.
Kailash Barik, a daily labourer, strongly opposed the sale of liquor in the village. Heated argument took place among Barik and two other people who were in the liquor business.
They later beat him to death, Barik’s family members alleged.
The victim was rushed to the community health centre, Khallikote, where
doctors declared him death, police said. Police said the accused and the deceased had previous enmity.
Several people, especially women and the victim’s family members protested demanding arrest of the accused immediately.
The deceased family members also opposed the liquor sale in the village.
Police said the accused are absconding. ‘We have identified the accused. Effort is on to arrest the culprits,’ said inspector in charge, Khallikote police
station, Sunil Kumar Behera.
