Jagatsinghpur July 22 (LocalWire): Jabir Khan of Mangalpur village under Jagatsinghpur police limit remains missing in Uganda since September 2014.
His family complained of government apathy since their request to search and locate him for the last five years has fallen to deaf ears.
The family rued that they have been ignored by the district administration and were not extend any financial assistance even after their houses were damaged during Cyclone Fani.
Jabir Khan, who was working as a cook in a hotel near Kampla University is suspected to have been tortured and abducted by miscreants in Uganda.
His wife Afsari Bibi spoke to him on 25 September 2014 and has not been able to contact him since.
For the last five years she ran from pillar to post and met the superintendent of police, both Jagatsinghpur former MP Kulamani Samal and Kendrapada MP Baijyant Panda, Collector, Governor, Chief Minister, minister of external affairs, chairman of human rights commission, President of India, Prime Minister of India but says that no action has yet been taken to track her husband.
Bibi said instead of showing sympathy, the officials harassed her and no one co-operated with the family.
Due to paucity of funds, they are now starving since Khan was the only earning member.
‘During Fani, our house was damaged but no assistance has yet been given to us. There is no fund to purchase medicine for the treatment of my parents-in-law.
The studies of my children have been stopped as I have no money to purchase books and other study materials,’ Afsari Bibi said.
Khan’s father Safir Khan said, ‘no steps have been taken to rescue my son from Uganda.
We are living in a pathetic condition. The ministry of external affairs, local police, government representatives, have failed to do their duty and trace my son.’
Police said they sought the intervention of the ministry of external affairs and embassy of South Africa to locate him but it yielded no result.
They said Khan was arrested by Moriya Police of Aginest Colaa on false charges lodged by the hotel owner when he demanded a hike in his remuneration and protested his torture.
He was also released from jail but after that cannot be traced.
