Berhampur, March 17 (LocalWire): A 35-year old man and two relatives have been arrested on charges of killing his wife by setting her on fire at his house in Dakhinapur village on the outskirts of the city, police said on Saturday.
The accused persons have been identified as Chakrapani Patra, husband of the deceased, his elder brother Dandapani Patra and mother Bishnu Patra, said inspector Anjali Biswal.
The victim, identified as Diptirani Patra, sustained 90 percent burn injuries.
She was first admitted at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, and later on, shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Diptirani’s brother Balaji Sahu alleged that she was killed by her in-laws over dowry.
Sahu said that his sister got married in April last year, but soon after marriage, her in-laws started harassing her for dowry.
Inspector Biswal said that police will investigate the allegations.
The husband, though, refuted the allegation, and claimed that it was a suicide case.
