Berhampur, July 2 (LocalWire): A Maoist camp was busted on Wednesday by security personnel in a reserve jungle under Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal district.
Several items were seized from the camp, including explosive substances and personal belongings of the Maoists.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) launched an anti-Maoist operation in Ladapadara reserve forest area.
Upon getting wind of the operation, the left-wing extremists fled the camp leaving behind a huge stick of explosives and other items.
Around 15 kg of explosives, including urea, gunpowder and other substances, 28 detonators, multi-meters, live wires, rechargeable battery bags, black caps, medicines, Maoist banners, poster, and literature have been seized from the camp, said SP of Kandhamal, Prateek Singh.
Singh informed that there were around 15-20 ultras in the camp.
“They escaped under cover of the dense forest and thick vegetation. No exchange of fire took place,” he added.
Search operations by the security forces continued in the area as members of the are committee of the CPI (Maoist) might have hidden in the dense forest after fleeing the camp.
Last month, the police had busted a Maoist camp in the jungle under Khajuripada police limits, in which huge quantities explosive material had been seized.
