Berhampur, Jan 28 (LocalWire) A Maoist with bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head has surrendered in Kandhamal district, said police on Mobnday.
Andar Kanhar (21) of Jargisoru village in Phringia police station limits surrendered before Kamdhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) Prateek Singh at the district police headquarters on Sunday.
Kanhar had joined the rebel outfitin 2014. He was a member of the Kadanga area committee under the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh division of the CPI(Maoist).
He was allegedly involved in several incidents of Maoist violence, including at least one murder and five exchange of fires with security forces.
He was very active in Kandhamal district and was trying to strengthen the outlawed organization.
Kanhar told the police that he snapped his relation with the rebel organization as he was reportedly fed up of with their “false” ideology and opposition to developmental activities.
He was also dissatisfied with Maoists killing innocent people accusing them of being police informers.
After surrendering before the police, Kandhamal SP said Kanhar would get monetary assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the Odisha government.
He will also get assistance for construction of house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade or vocation of his linking, the officer said.
