Berhampur, June 9 (LocalWire): A 24-year old married woman was hammered to death at Gobindapur village in Ganjam district, about 50-km from here on Saturday.
The matter was reported to the Sheragada police by Pinky’s neighbors who first saw her body lying in a pool of blood inside a room of her in-law’s house.
The police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem to the local MKCG Medical College.
A case of murder has been registered against the deceased’s in-laws and husband Firoz Swain at the Sheragada police station on the basis of a complaint filed by Kunu Swain, mother of the victim.
Firoz owns a small business and had married Pinky in 2017.
According to the police, the couple hailed from the same village and were in love. They had decided to marry after consent from both the families.
While the police are yet to ascertain the exact reason for Pinky’s murder, her mother has alleged that she was being harassed by her in-laws since her marriage.
The police have detained Pinky’s father-in-law for questing about the incident. However, her husband and other in-laws have fled the village, the police said.
