Bhubaneswar, June 20 (LocalWire): The body of Ajit Sahoo, martyred in Jammu’s Pulwama district reached Badasuanla village in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district today.
The soldier was injured in an IED blast on 17 June and later succumbed to his injuries.
He had joined the Indian Army in 2015.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his grief in a tweet.
He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the bereaved family.
The jawan’s mortal remains arrived in a special aircraft at the Biju Patnaik International airport here last night and was taken to 120 Battalion for guard of honour.
Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal paid a floral tribute to the jawan today morning.
Minister of steel and mines Prafulla Mallik, MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain, Minister Ashok Panda, Bhubaneswar- Central MLA Anant Narayan Jena and BJP leader Prakash Mishra also paid their homage.
The mortal remains were taken to Dhenkanal and kept at the mini stadium for people to pay their tributes.
Later on, the body was carried to his native village in a huge procession where hundreds of people including ministers and the district collector attended the funeral.
