Berhampur, August 1 (LocalWire): Police launched motorcycle patrolling in Silk City to thwart snatching and looting in the city but despite all the efforts, such incidents are continuing unabated.
Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly looted a mangal sutra from a middle-aged woman impersonating themselves as police personnel at Dalua Sahi under Berhampur town police station limits today.
The victim was returning from a temple when the men alerted her of snatchers and asked her to wrap the gold ornament and keep it safely.
‘When she tried to keep it in her purse, they advised her to keep it in a paper.
They also asked her to handover the paper to them for proper packing.
Later, they handed over the paper packet and left the place,’ said police.
When she reached home, she found the packet dis not have her mangal sutra but some stones.
She immediately informed the police. SP (Berhampur), Pinak Mishra and his team rushed to the spot.
This was the sixth such incident in the city in the last five months, where miscreants looted gold ornaments from senior citizens and women in the guise of policemen.
In a bid to thwart such incidents, police launched bike patrolling in the town from last month.
