Berhampur, Dec 1 (LocalWire): The Ganjam Muslim Cultural Association organized a mass marriage ceremony today where 15 couples from both the Hindu and Muslim communities tied the knot.
Spreading the message of unity, the four Hindu and 11 Muslim couples exchanged vows under the same roof which was attended by dignitaries including MLA (Berhampur) Bikram Kumar Panda, district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange and SP (Berhampur) Pinak Mishra.
The association also gifted household articles to the couples after the reception ceremony,
‘The brides and bridegrooms belong to poor families and could not afford to marry. The association therefore solemnized the multiple-wedding where religion, caste and creed are no bar,’ said Abdul Sattar of GMCA.
Before they tied the knots, we have taken independent consent from the boy and girl as well as their parents for the alliance, he said.
Besides other documents have also collected from them, added Rahim Khan, secretary of the association.
All the expenditureswere borne by the association after collecting voluntary donation, said Faizullah Khan.
