Jagatsinghpur, May 28 (LocalWire): Migrant returnees who have been quarantined at Braja Kishore Satamauzi High School here were attacked allegedly by Panchayat Executive Officer and the husband of the Sarpanch of Gadabishnupur Panchayat yesterday for protesting against the low-quality food being served there.
Sources said that nearly 22 migrant returnees, including nine girls, are staying in the isolation centre of Gadabishnupur panchayat in Erasama block.
Allegedly, they had raised issues with the Sarpanch over the supply of low-quality food and lack of other facilities.
Being aggrieved with the activities of the returnees, husband of the Sarpanch, Pravakar Behera, and Panchayat Executive Officer Pabitra Mallick attacked the inmates with lathis.
This led to clashes in the isolation centre between the inmates and Panchayat officials.
When contacted, Block Development Officer of Erasama, Kailash Behera, informed, “Block officials accompanied by police personnel rushed to the spot and found that the allegations of supply of low-quality food and lack of other facilities are false.”
“The inmates were found to have been using filthy language in the presence of the Sarpanch and were accused of performing vulgar activities in the presence of the women inmates in the isolation centre.
As they apologized for their activities, no action has been taken against them,” he added.
