Kendrapara, August 13 (LocalWire): Baraj Kumar Das, a 17-year-old wheelchair-bound boy of Sankhapada village in Kendrapara district, has secured 84 percent marks in the +2 Science examination.
Baraj appeared for the exam from Kendrapara Autonomous College.Baraj was born without legs and having just a pair of fingers on both of his hands.
Belonging to a small village, he faced stigma from the society ever since he was born.“Life has been a challenge for me, and I have accepted it.
I wish to become a doctor, so as to serve the poor and people with disabilities,” he said, attributing his success to his parents and teachers.“By dint of his hard work he secured good marks in the examination.
He is now an example for all disabled children,” said Dr. Basudev Das, an educationist and researcher of Kendrapara.“My son fought against all odds to reach his goal.
I worked as a daily labourer but never neglected to provide help to my son for his study.
His hard labour has borne fruits,” said Ranjan Das, the father of Baraj.“After the birth of Baraj, many of our family members and relatives did not expect him to live long.
Some relatives of ours had even suggested us to leave the child to his fate and get on with our lives,” said Sukanti Das the mother of Baraj.
In 2018, in the High School Certificate (HSC) examination he also got an ‘A-2’ grade by scoring 518 marks out of 600.
Becoming a doctor may still be a long way off for Baraj, but he has already taught a lesson in life to many people around him, with his undying spirit to move ahead in life.“Baraj inspires disabled students with his achievement.
Once you know him, his disability goes away in your eyes.He has become a living example of the fact that nothing is impossible, said Dr. Rajendra Prasad Tripathy the Principal of Kendrapada Autonomous college.
