Bhubaneswar, Nov 20 (LocalWire) Fans were left disappointed after they could not book tickets for the gala opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 with the official website crashing due to heavy traffic.
“Server crashed within seconds during Booking of Tickets for #HWC2018 #OpeningCeremony & #WorldCupCelebrations . Managed to select booking option after 30 minutes. Money debited from bank account, but Tickets could not be booked. No confirmation email… Now expecting a refund,” tweeted political analyst Sagar Speaks.
Online sale of tickets for the opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 began on Tuesday.
The 14th edition of Men’s Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be held from Nov 28 to Dec 16 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The opening ceremony will be held on Nov 27 at Kalinga Stadium, while the World Cup Celebrations event will take place at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Nov 28.
Governing body Hockey India announced sales of tickets, priced at Rs. 500 each, for both the events began at 12 noon on Tuesday at www.ticketgenie.in. However, the website crashed due to heavy traffic and remained down for hours.
Reacting to the issue, sports department deputy secretary Manoj Padhi said: “We have nothing to do with ticket sales. Hockey India is in charge of ticket sales. It may be so that the website crashed due to heavy traffic. We have got in touch with Hockey India to make sure hockey fans don’t suffer.”
Meanwhile, Hockey India also acknowledged heavy traffic behind slowing down of the website.
“There is a huge demand for tickets at http://ticketgenie.in for the OHMWC Bhubaneswar 2018 opening ceremony at Bhubaneswar (27th Nov) & World Cup celebrations at Cuttack ( 28th Nov) after the tickets went online at 12 PM,” Hockey India tweeted.
The organization said the issue has been resolved.
“Consequently, there was a slow down of the website. However, now a queue system is in place. Request all to kindly cooperate in view of the larger demand compared to the stadium capacity available,” it said.
