Berhampur, Dec 31 (LocalWire) Tribal dominated Kandhamal district woke up on Monday with white dew on rooftops and tree branches as hill town Daringibadi recorded the season’s and the state’s lowest temperature at 2.8 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in district headquarters town Phulbani was recorded at 3 degree Celsius.
The night temperature at Daringibadi and Phulbani was recorded at 3 and 4.5 degree Celsius respectively on Sunday.
Normal life in the district continued to remain paralyzed as unprecedented cold wave gripped Kandhamal.
Interior parts of the district including Baliguda, Bramhanigaon, Kotagarh, Belaghara, Raikia and Phiringia also experienced severe cold as minimum temperature in these pockets dipped than the temperature in Phulbani.
A blanket of fog engulfed almost all areas of the district in morning hours causing low visibility conditions and affecting the flow of vehicular traffic.
Residents remained inside the house till 9 am due to bone-chilling cold coupled with the foggy condition.
Tourists, however thronged to Daringibadi, situated at an altitude of about 280 meter above the sea level, well-known as the coldest place in the state and “Kashmir of Odisha” to enjoy the cold climate of the hill town.
Cold wave blowing from the northwest side and snowfall in Himanchal Pradesh are some of the reasons for the dip of mercury at several places in Odisha, including Kandhamal, said weather experts.
Weather experts predicted the cold climate in the district will prevail for some more days.
