Berhampur, August 22 (LocalWire): With state government’s help, the body of a migrant labourer who passed away in Dubai seven days ago, reached his native village at Kaithada under Ganjam district’s Khallikote block today for the last rites to be performed.
The body of Jaya Dalai was flown from Dubai to Bhubaneswar and then brought in an ambulance to his village.
Besides his family members, MLA (Khallikote) Suryamani Baidya, district labour officer, Chhatrapur Siba Narayan Sahoo and others were present at the airport and accompanied the body to his village.
Dalai died due to heart attack on 16 August. One of his friends from the village, working in Dubai, informed his family about his death.
The family then requested the district administration and MLA (Khallikote) to make arrangements to bring the body home for the last rites.
‘As directed by the Collector, we inquired into the matter and requested the labour commissioner to bring back the body,’ said the DLO.
Jaya worked as a mason in a construction company in Dubai for some years and had gone through an agent from Khurda.
He came to the village about one and half year ago, his family said.
‘We will verify his documents and ensure that he gets the necessary compensation from the company,’ said DLO.
