Kendrapara, May 14 (LocalWire): A 40-year-old migrant worker of Kendrapara district allegedly hanged himself from a tree in Haryana on Tuesday night as he was unable to return home.
The worker used to work in a plywood company at Yamuna Nagar.
Before his death, he posted a video on social media and requested the government to help him and make arrangements for his return.
He had also threatened to end his life if the authorities did not help him return to his village.
Upset over not being able to go home because of the lockdown, my husband Gangadhar Biswal ended his life.
My husband told me over telephone on Monday that he had no money to pay his room rent.
He was quite depressed as he also could not arrange money to reach his village.
We are also upset after the authorities refused to bring the body to our village and cremated the body in Haryana on Wednesday, said Sabita, the wife of the deceased.
Gangadhar of Bajapur village had moved to Haryana six months back to work in the Dico plywood factory at Yamuna Nagar. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
His two sons were inconsolable. Tears were rolling down on their cheeks. Uncertain future haunts them after the untimely death of their father.
We never thought we would ever have to come across such a tragedy, said Sangram, 11.
After knowing about the death of a migrant worker of the district in Haryana, the district administration talked with the collector of Yamuna Nagar and he assured us to take proper action against the plywood factory owner.
We paid Rs 10,000 to the widow of the deceased on Wednesday,” said Samarth Verma the district collector of Kendrapada.
