Berhampur, Sept 11 (LocalWire): State’s food supply and consumer welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain today called upon farmers to register their names for the smooth supply of paddy in the coming Kharif procurement season (KPS) 2019-20.
The last date for registration of the names that was fixed at 10 September, was extended by a week to facilitate and to cover more farmers, he said.
‘With the extension of date for seven more days, we hope more number of farmers will register their names for supply of paddy after harvest,’ the minister said.
Last year, Ganjam district had a registered 1,21,700 farmers.
This year, as many as 1.16 lakh farmers in the district have registered .
Last year’s figure might cross with seven more days left to register their names, minister said.
Swain was at Chhatrapur, the district headquarter town of Ganjam district to attend a felicitation meeting, organized by the Rushikulya Raita Mahasabha, on organization of farmers.
Besides Swain, state’s agriculture minister Arun Sahoo, former deputy speaker Ram Chandra Panda, MLA (Chhatrapur) Subash Behera was attending the meeting.
