Berhampur, August 13 (LocalWire): Continuing the crackdown on ganja smuggling in Kandhmal district, police today arrested two smugglers, including a minor near Similisahi under Phiringia police station limits,
Police seized around 50 kg ganja worth about Rs 1.50 lakhs, along with a car from the accused.
While a 16-year old boy was involved in the smuggling, the other accused was identified as Sujit Bhoi of Damigaon, near Phulbani, said inspector in charge, Phiringia, P Shyasundar Rao. The driver of the car, however, managed to escape, he said.
The ganja was being transported towards Phulbani, when patrolling police seized the contraband.
Details of the destination and procuring point are being investigated, he added.
Police suspect the duo might have been earlier involved in transporting narcotic substances from Phulbani.
Phiringia police seized over 226 kgs ganja in the last week and arrested eight people, including the teenager.
At least three cars, used to transport the contraband have been seized, police said.
On Monday, they arrested two people and seized over 106 kg ganja along with a car near Muslipanga.
The ganja was worth around Rs 3.50 lakhs.
