Keonjhar, January 4 (Localwire): The police have registered an FIR in a shocking case of repeated gang-rape of a 12-year girl in the district.
According to sources, the minor girl was hospitalized on Friday night at the Keonjhar district headquarter hospital with a fractured leg.
Later, during counseling by members of One Stop Centre (Sakhi), the girl revealed that she met with the accident while being kidnapped and also stated that the accused men had forcibly taken her and raped her on several occasions earlier.
Based on the girl’s statement, the volunteers of Sakhi informed the Jhumpura police who meet the accused and started investigation after receiving a formal complaint from the mother of the survivor.
“The girl was admitted to the hospital with severe injuries and fracture in the leg. During counseling, she has narrated all about the incident.
We then informed the matter to Keonjhar police. The police lodged a case after receiving a complaint. We are taking care of the girl in the hospital,” Prakalpa secretary and One Stop Centre chief Biplaba Mishra said.
When contacted, Keonjhar superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohakud said that the police was investigating the matter after registering a case.
“The number of accused can be ascertained only after the investigation,” he stated.
According to sources, the girl, a student of class six who belongs to a poor family and sells vegetables in the weekly market, was being sexually exploited by some local youths for over a month and they had twice taken her away while she was returning from weekly market and raped her.
They also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anybody, fearing which the girl did not tell anyone about her sexual harassment and rape.
Sources reveal that two of the accused had again kidnapped her from the weekly market on Friday and were taking her on their motorbike when they meet with an accident.
Since the girl sustained a severe injury, they dropped her home and ran away.
She was later taken to the hospital by her mother and some villagers.
