Koraput, November 23 (LocalWire): A minor boy was killed, while three others from the same family were rescued after the two-storied building in which they were living at Bariniput in Jeypore town in the district caved in at about 9 pm Friday.
In a rescue and search operation that lasted for about four hours, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) along with the fire services managed to rescue three people trapped under the debris.
However, a 10-year-old boy Rasel Khelra could not be saved despite the best efforts of the rescuers engaged in the operation, Koraput additional district magistrate Deben Kumar Pradhan said.
Three people rescued from the debris are undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital here and are out of danger, he said.
“The building was in a dilapidated state and was unsafe for human dwelling.
To avert such mishap in the future, the administration has decided to survey to ascertain whether dilapidated buildings are still being occupied by people in the largest town of the district,” he added.
