Berhampur, July 15 (LocalWire): A 25-year old man died after a bomb exploded on his self in Daha under Ganjam district’s Bhanjanagar police station limits today. The incident took place when he along with his friends tried to escape after looting Rs 1.10-lakh cash from a cattle trader at Kanteipalli.
The deceased was identified as Charan Rout of Bada Borsingi village, said inspector in-charge, Gangapur police station, Satya Ranjan Pradhan. He said at least seven motorbike-borne miscreants looted cash at gun-point while he was returning to his village in Gangapur.
He lodged a complaint at Gangapur police station.
Police launched a search team immediately to follow the miscreants and arrest them.
Police tried to intercept the miscreants near Daha and one of the vehicles
skidded while the biker tried to hurl bombs at the police team.
He fell down and the bomb exploded killing him on the spot, police said.
Police sent the body to the sub-divisional hospital, Bhanjanagara for post-mortem.
Motorcycle and cash around Rs 20.000 was also recovered although the other miscreants managed to escape.
Patrolling has been intensified in the area and police are trying to arrest the others.
