Rourkela, Oct 15 (LocalWire): Gun-toting miscreants looted the money meant for pensioners of five gram panchayats at Kuanrmunda.
The money was looted early morning. Looters decamped with the pension money that was being brought from ICICI Bank branch, Rourkela to the GP office at Kuanrmunda.
There were three people including the driver in the Bolerothat was transporting the money.
According to bystanders, four miscreants in two bikes and carrying firearms surrounded the vehicle.
‘The armed guard Srikant Palei, raised his gun to fire but one of the miscreants held his gun.
Another pointed a gun to his head and snatched the cash box,’ said sub-inspector of Kuanrmunda out post Hrushikesha Behera.
The looters also had a scuffle with the guard and in the bargain the latter was also injured.
The cashier of the agency, CMS Infosystem, which transports the cash, Subrat Panigrahi, was also injured, informed the police officer.
A search is on for the miscreants. Exit points at the inter-state border near Biramitrapur and other parts of district are being tightly monitored, police informed.
An official at the GP office said, ‘This incident has affected nearly 800 people.
Disbursal of money went unhampered in rest of the panchayats.’
