Kendrapara, March 4 (LocalWire): Baijayant ‘Jay’Panda’s sudden decision to join the BJP has evoked mixed reaction from his erstwhile party leaders and his voters in the Kendrapada Parliamentary constituency.
Kalpana Mallick a social worker of Kendrapara said ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity has soared after airstrikes on purported terror camps in Pakistan and Baijayant Panda did a right decision by joining the BJP.
Panda is popular in Kendrapara as he did many developmental works and he will do a hat-trick in the coming Lok Sabha polls.’
Durodhan Sahoo, president of the BJP district unit said, ‘BJD is in for troubled times. Distress sale of paddy, non-repair of river and saline embankments, non-completion of 12 bridges, non-repair of canals, large scale corruption and non-availability of drinking water will be the major poll planks in the district in the coming election.’
‘Panda has added colour to the dull political scene by joining the BJP on the eve of the election. He will give a decisive boost to the district party workers were drifting rudderless after senior BJP leader Bijaya Mohapatra left four months back. Now the saffron brigade will be strong in the district,’ said Amarbara Biswal of Kendrapara.
‘Panda did plenty of developmental work in his constituency with MPLAD funds. To provide drinking water in rural areas, he built 57 water tanks each with a capacity of one lakh litres to solve water scarcity problem in the area. He also built 23 mini-stadiums. He took the right decision by joining BJP at the right time,’ said Tapan Sahoo, a retired school teacher of Kendrapara.
The Kendrapada town BJD committee president Srikanta Panda said, ‘Jay Panda has no base here. People of Kendrapada elected him twice as a BJD candidate.
He was hobnobbing with the BJP for which he was suspended. The voters of Kendrapara will never vote for BJP. In the last Parliamentary elections, the BJP candidate lost his deposit and Panda too will taste defeat in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
