Berhampur, January 7 (Localwire): The vigilance sleuths have arrested a junior clerk of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 5,000 from a person on Monday evening.
The accused identified as Srikant Das had demanded the bribe to process the file for the medical certificate of his wife who had died on 13 November 2019 at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
A medical certificate is required to obtain a death certificate.
“The vigilance sleuths trapped him red-handed while accepting the bribe at the office in the surgery department,” Berhampur vigilance superintendent of police Mayadhar Swain said, adding that the bribe money was recovered from the accused.
After his arrest, the anti-corruption officials also conducted a search at his office and house on the medical campus.
“The details of the search, however, are yet to be assessed,” he stated.
