Bhubaneswar, November 20 (LocalWire): With the central government sanctioning 50 electric buses to the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Bhubaneshwar is all set to add these environment-friendly vehicles to its Mo Bus service fleet in 2020.
The test run of the electric buses is likely to begin in about a week, a senior CRUT official said.
Besides, CRUT is also refurbishing the old DTS city buses which are not in operation anymore. These will be rebranded as Mo bus and inducted into the fleet by the beginning of 2020.
“We are expecting 50 refurbished DTS buses to join the fleet by the beginning of 2020,” CRUT Head of Communication Cell Manush Nayak said.
Mo bus recently won the Best City Bus Service award at the Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held in Lucknow.
According to the official, Mo Bus service touched ridership of one lakh thrice in the past month and achieved a new high in revenue in October 2019, crossing Rs 15 lakhs. They are targeting revenues of Rs 17 lakhs by the end of 2019.
Nayak further said that the key factors contributing to the success of Mo Bus service are its customer-friendly initiatives, prompt feedback and grievance response cell, dedicated and highly motivated human resource, and vision of becoming an endearing brand personality.
“The vision is of becoming a cult brand like the Mumbai Local or the London Lube,” he stated, adding that the Freedom Monthly Pass was introduced based specifically on the feedback of elderly people and students who didn’t have access to smartphones and were unable to access the online facility.
CRUT launched the pass on Independence Day, and it has indeed helped in increasing the ridership by 5000-7000 since August.
“The Mo Bus social media handle is also youthful and cheerful in character and a lot of interesting content like memes and videos are shared on it,” Nayak said.
“Even the mascot for Mo Bus, MOBBY which stands for “Mo Bus for a Better You” indicating the significance of using greener public transport for the greater good, was selected from suggestions on our social media platform,” he stated.
CRUT is also working on initiatives like Library on Wheels, Mo Bus Mo FM and is planning to organizing a weekly “Bus Day” during which people will be sensitised towards the use of public transport and its long term advantages.
Further, to make the venture greener and more eco-friendly, as well to provide last mile connectivity, CRUT introduced Mo Cycles in 2018 and is all set to roll out e-rickshaw services soon.
