Rourkela, Sept 26 (LocalWire): There has been an increase in mob-related violence where innocents have been lynched mistaking them for kidnappers. Two such cases have taken place recently in Sundergarh district.
The police, who went to the rescue of the innocent, was also not spared from the villagers’ fury.
On Wednesday evening, a mentally-deranged person was beaten up by villagers of remote Menmena village, under Nuagaon block in Hatibari out post.
Anand Chandra Majhi, IIC Biramitrapur said, ‘Ramkishan Sahu, who is chained at home in Porba village, Jharkhand, had sneaked out and got waylaid. He reached Menmena and the kids started making fun of him. When he caught a small child villagers got enraged and started chasing him till he fell down. They started beating him up till Hatibari OIC rushed to the spot.
Angry villagers surrounded the police and did not allow them to take away Sahu till his parents reached with Sahu’s medical records.
In the last one-and-a-half month several such incidents have been reported from different parts of the district.
‘This is a serious issue as innocents are being thrashed by the mob who do not listen to anyone,’ a police officer said.
