Berhampur, Feb 6 (LocalWire) Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik were among several political leaders to condole the death of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Ladu Kishore Swain.
Swain passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night. He was 71.
Modi and Patnaik spoke to Swain’s elder son Nachiketa on Wednesday morning and offer their respective condolences.
“They expressed their grief over my father’s death,” said Nachiketa.
Modi earlier tweeted: “Anguished by the passing away of Lok Sabha MP from Aska Odisha Sri Ladu Kishore Swain Ji. He will be remembered for his rich service to society. His works towards rural development was noteworthy. Spke to his son Nachiketa and expressed condolences.”
Patnaik tweeted: “‘Shocked to hear the demise of Ladu Kishore Swain, MP Aska. Convey my deep condolences to the bereaved family. late Swain was an able parliamentarian as well as a distinguished member of state assembly. His loss is profound. May his soul rest in peace.”
A special meeting was held at the BJD office here, where party leaders paid their last tribute to Swain.
District collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, Superintendent of Police (SP) (Ganjam) Brijesh Rai, BJD’s district unit president and MLA (Gopalpur) Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy and several MLAs of the district and party workers were present at Swain’s residence at Pathara, near Kabisurya Nagara to pay floral tributes.
Swain was also accorded the Guard of Honour at his village.
Born on July 8, 1947, Swain was elected to Lok Sabha from Aska seat in 2014.
He was also elected to the state assembly from Kabisurya Nagara segment in 2004 on a BJD ticket.
He, however, unsuccessfully contested in the same assembly segment in 2000.
