Kendrapara, April 18 (LocalWire): Baijayant Panda needs no introduction in Kendrapara yet BJP will not leave any stone unturned and the Prime Minister himself will campaign for the party’s national vice-president and Kendrapara Lok Sabha candidate on 23 April.
Modi will address a massive rally at Baro ground in the outskirts of Kendrapada town at 11.00 a.m on 23 April where around three lakh people are expected to attend.
The PM’s campaign will give the last ditch boost to the party’s prospects in Kendrapara district and its nearby areas, said Dyurodhan Sahoo, the president of the district unit of BJP.
This prestigious seat is known as an anti-Congress bastion and is set to witness a triangular fight among the former Kendrapada MP of BJP, Jay Panda, BJD candidate, Rajya Sabha member and noted Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty and Congress candidate, noted lawyer Dharanidhar Nayak.
Modi is the second Prime Minister to campaign for his party candidate after IK Gujral who campaigned in favour of Janata Dal candidate Srikant Jena in 1998.
The Kendrapara Parliamentary constituency is spread over seven Assembly segments of Kendrapara, Rajnagar, Aul, Mahakalapada, Patkura in Kendrapara district and Salipur and Mahanga in Cuttack district.
BJD sources said chief minister Naveen Patnaik who covets to defeat his bete noire Baijayant Panda in the poll, is also supposed to tour Kendrapada areas a few days prior to the election to ensure that the the ruling party’s vote bank remains intact.
