Bhubaneswar, Jan 31 (LocalWire)A portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by an Odisha-born painter has reportedly been auctioned for Rs. 5 lakh in New Delhi.
The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi hosted a two-day physical auction of memorable gifts presented to Modi nationally and internationally.
A painting by Bijay Biswaal showing Modi walking at a railway platform with a bag and an umbrella like a common man, received the highest bids at the auction.
The painting had a reserve price of Rs 50, 000.
“I feel am on top of the world,” said the elated, self-taught artist.
Biswaal used to work as a chief ticket inspector for the Indian Railways. He took voluntary retirement in March 2017 to pursue his passion for painting.
Hailing from Pallahara in Odisha’s Angul district, he is now settled in Nagpur.
